Alternatives

Looking for a Kelsius Alternative?

Kelsius is a good system. If you are looking anyway, it is usually for one of four reasons. Here is honest guidance on each.

Kelsius has been doing this since 2003 and is used across 24 countries. If it is working for you, stay. Switching food safety systems is disruptive and should not be done for a marginal gain.

People who search for an alternative usually have one of four specific reasons. Here is what to do about each, including the cases where the answer is not us.

Everything stated here about Kelsius comes from their own website and public materials, and was checked in August 2026. Products change. Ask them directly before you decide, and tell us if anything below is out of date.

1. The hardware model does not suit you

Kelsius supplies tablets and probes, with sensors on FoodCheck 2.0. That works well on a fixed wall in a kitchen. It works less well if your team is spread across a production floor, a cold store and a yard, or if you are opening sites faster than you can install hardware.

If that is the issue: look for a phone based system with unlimited users, so the check is recorded where the task happens rather than at a queue by the tablet. That is how ours works, on iOS and Android, offline in cold stores.

2. You have outgrown kitchen features and need production traceability

This is the commonest genuine reason to move. A system built for hospitality handles deliveries, temperatures and cleaning well. It is a different job to assign batch codes at production, link ingredient lots to runs, hold recipes with allergen data, and produce a mass balance an auditor accepts.

If that is the issue: you need production traceability, from whoever provides it. Ours runs goods in to dispatch and was built with manufacturers. Greenaway Foods aligned their BRC processes to it.

3. Per site costs at scale

Hardware based systems cost per installation. Ten sites means ten installations, and adding an eleventh means another.

If that is the issue: get a written quote from both on your actual site count including hardware, installation and any per user charge. Ours is published, €19.99 or €79 per site per month with unlimited users and no contract, so you can do the arithmetic before you talk to anyone.

Be fair in the comparison. Kelsius supplying and supporting hardware has real value. Compare total cost, not headline price.

4. Staff are not using it properly

Be careful here, because changing system rarely fixes an adoption problem on its own. Ask first whether the checks are being skipped because the tool is wrong, or because nobody owns the routine.

If it is genuinely the tool: the things that move adoption are photo instructions on every task so a new starter gets it right first shift, everybody licensed rather than a rationed few, and their own phone rather than a shared device. See what actually fails at audit.

When you should stay with Kelsius

  • You run kitchens and the tablet at the pass is working
  • You value one vendor owning hardware and software
  • You use their bundled food safety eLearning
  • You operate outside Ireland and the UK, where their partner network matters
  • Your only complaint is price, and nobody has quoted the true total cost of switching

If you do switch, do it properly

  1. Export your historical records first. You may be legally obliged to retain them, and you will want them at your next audit.
  2. Check hardware ownership. Understand what you have paid down and what returns.
  3. Run both in parallel for two weeks. Never switch a compliance system cold.
  4. Switch at a quiet point in the year, not the month before an audit.
