Food Guard vs Kelsius

Both Irish, both digital HACCP. The real difference is hardware model and what you are running: a kitchen, or a production floor.

If you are comparing these two, you have already worked out that the American platforms are not built for FSAI inspection. Good. Now the question is narrower, and it comes down to two things: what hardware sits on your wall, and whether you make product or serve food.

Everything stated here about Kelsius comes from their own website and public materials, and was checked in August 2026. Products change. Ask them directly before you decide, and tell us if anything below is out of date.

Where Kelsius is the better fit

Three cases where we would tell you to go with them.

  • You want one vendor owning hardware and software. Kelsius designs and manufactures its own sensors and supplies tablets and probes. If you would rather not manage that yourself, it is a genuine advantage.
  • You run hotels or catering and nothing else. Their customer base is heavily hospitality and the tablet at the pass is a proven pattern in a kitchen.
  • Procurement scores vendor longevity. Established 2003. We started in 2021. That is a fair point against us and we would rather name it than have you find it.

Where Food Guard fits better

You make product rather than serve it

This is the clearest split. Our customers include a pizza manufacturer supplying Aldi, Lidl and SuperValu, and a third generation producer and distributor. That means batch codes assigned at production, ingredient batches linked to runs, recipes with allergen data attached, and a trace that runs goods in to dispatch.

If a supplier calls about a lot code, you need that chain, not a temperature log. Pizza Sorrento went paper to digital in four weeks and took BRC AA afterwards.

Everyone on shift has it in their hand

A wall mounted tablet is a queue. Checks get done at the tablet, which means they get done later, or in a batch, or by whoever walks past. On phones, the person doing the task records it where they are standing, and the timestamp is real.

Unlimited users on every plan is what makes that work. If licences are rationed, the shifts nobody is licensed for go back to paper.

Per site, and you can see the price

Our pricing is published: €19.99 or €79 per site per month, unlimited users, no contract, cancel any time. Kelsius publishes a starting figure for FoodCheck 2-Go and quotes the rest.

If you are comparing five sites you can do our arithmetic today, on the page, without a call. And there is no hardware to pay down, so leaving costs you nothing beyond the notice period.

The plan and the records in one place

Most digital HACCP systems replace the daily check sheets and leave the HACCP plan itself in a Word document nobody has opened since the last audit. When a critical limit changes, somebody has to remember to change the sheets monitoring it.

Ours holds both, linked. Change the limit, the check sheets follow. That is the difference between a records system and a food safety management system, and it is what an auditor is actually assessing under confidence in management.

Multi site without hardware per site

Five stores means five tablet installations under a hardware model. Under ours it means five site licences and whatever phones your staff already carry. Ryan’s Group run five SuperValu stores plus an 852/3 licensed production kitchen on it.

Where they overlap

Both cover digital HACCP records, wireless temperature monitoring with alerts, multi site reporting and audit ready record retrieval. Both are Irish, both build against FSAI requirements, and both will get you off paper.

If your operation is a single kitchen and temperature is your main control point, you will be well served either way. The differences above only start to matter at production, at multiple sites, or when unlimited users changes the economics.

How to decide in an afternoon

  1. Ask both for pricing on your actual site count. Include hardware, installation and any per user cost.
  2. Ask who can use it. How many named users, and what a sixth site or a twentieth staff member costs.
  3. Run a traceability exercise. Give both a real batch and ask them to trace it back to supplier lot and forward to customer.
  4. Ask about your sector specifically. If you make product, ask to see batch coding and recipe allergen handling, not a temperature dashboard.
  5. Check the exit. Can you export everything and leave, and what happens to hardware you have paid down.

Then try ours on a real week of your own operation. A fortnight on a real floor tells you more than any demo.
